SWM Christmas Concert Sunday 1st December 2013

Posted by in Uncategorized | November 27, 2013

You are invited to our Christmas Concert this coming Sunday 1st December to be held at Intereach on the corner of Napier and Tricketts Streets starting at 2pm. Don’t be late!

Teachers have selected some of their finest students to perform. The Christmas Concert is such a great way to reflect on the achievements of our students. It is unfortunate that there isn’t time for every student to perform on Sunday, but performance opportunities are organised throughout the year. Performance is an important part of the child’s music education.

Please come along to support our students and their teachers. Afternoon tea will be provided. We expect the program to be finished by 3.30pm.

Free Sunday Afternoon Concert 17th November 2013

Posted by in Uncategorized | November 27, 2013

Our recent Sunday Afternoon Concert was a huge success with over 100 people attending. The beautiful Uniting Church provided the perfect acoustic for a program of stunning music. Local musician, Catherine Browning, soprano was accompanied on piano by Claire Lamb. Their program included Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Bizet, Purcell, Dvorak and Haydn. Claire also presented two piano solos, Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven and Clair du Lune by Debussy. The audience was on their feet demanding an encore from Catherine and Claire, which came with an exquisite rendition of Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck. Support acts were provided by Imogen Mann on cello and Tomoko Spalding on piano. Imogen performed a Bach Prelude and a moving piece by Ernest Block titled “Prayer from Jewish Life”. (Imogen is a past student of South West Music and is about to sit her AMEB 8th Grade exam.) Tomoko played Beethoven’s Pathetique piano sonata and a Chopin Valse.

Perhaps Sunday Afternoon Concerts provided by some of our home grown talent will become a regular item on our calendar!!

Music Matters: November 2013

Last month I was able to announce that our application for funding from NSW Department of Education and Communities for the 2013/14 to 2015/16 triennium was successful. This funding of $150,000 per annum is a substantial increase from our previous annual funding of $130,000 and will cover approximately 40% of the running costs of our Regional Conservatorium.
This month I am pleased to announce that our 2014 Concert Series is now assured through funding from Arts NSW. Our joint application with South West Arts was successful and we will receive $39,390. We look forward to providing Deniliquin and neighbouring communities with some more wonderful music in 2014.
Finally, we wish our 7 piano students who are sitting their AMEB exams early in December, the very best of luck.

Emma-Rose Hewitt

Emma-Rose Hewitt, Moulamein Public School
Emma-Rose is in her third term of learning guitar with our teacher, Will Eldridge who is based in Moulamein. Emma-Rose has been a very motivated student and her positive energy and enthusiasm has made the journey so far, very rewarding. Will says, “She has developed her musical skills with ukulele (as part of the school Music program) as well as guitar. This has allowed her ‘musical ear’ to adapt to both instruments and enabled her to play several songs from memory.” She has performed at the School Assembly and is looking forward to future performance opportunities. Emma-Rose also loves to sing and “Travelling Soldier” by the Dixie Chicks is one of her favourites.

Catherine Browning (Soprano) & Claire Lamb (Piano)
Sunday 17th November at 2pm, Uniting Church
You are invited to a musical treat! Talented local musicians Catherine Browning and Claire Lamb will perform some of their favourite classical pieces on 17th November at 2pm at the Uniting Church. This performance has been a long held dream for Catherine and she is thrilled to have the considerable talent of Claire on piano to accompany her. South West Music is delighted to support this concert. There could not be a better way to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Sunday 1st December at 2pm at Intereach
Each year our teachers showcase a number of their students at our annual Christmas Concert. Public are invited so please come along and be impressed by our talented musicians.
As well as the Christmas Concert, our students will be involved in a range of performances this term including Piano and Young Musicians Club end of year concerts with Delena, Drumkit end of year concert with Campbell, school assembly performances, end of year Presentation performances, busking in the main street, the December Muso’s night and St Michael’s Fete.

Teranga – African Band
Our final Concert was a great success with over 200 people attending in Deniliquin and around 50 in Moulamein. It was wonderful to see so many children soaking up the African rhythms.
One of the highlights of Teranga’s visit to Deniliquin was their involvement in Percussion Workshops which were held at Yallambee. The Yallambee community absolutely loved their time with the musicians and they produced some wonderful music. School aged children and a few lucky adults also joined in with one of the workshops.
