Music Matters March 2014

Our Term 1 programs are running smoothly and I would like to particularly welcome all of our new students to South West Music. We hope you enjoy your musical journey with us. If you would like to receive our Facebook posts then please “Like” us on Facebook.
We currently have around 150 children and adults, receiving individual lessons in piano, flute, voice, violin, guitar, ukulele and drum kit. Our qualified teachers deliver lessons during school hours and after school.
The Young Musicians Club continues to provide pre-instrumental music to 4 to 8 year olds and 9 to 13 year olds and is delivered by Delena Gaffney. Delena also delivers curriculum based classroom music to the students of St Michael’s.
Our newest classroom program is the Blighty School Ukulele program, which is delivered to the Year 3 to 6 students by Chris Bodey. The Blighty community will no doubt love the sounds of the ukulele.
When we take all of our programs into account, our Regional Music Conservatorium is providing music education programs to around 320 people. Whilst we are one of the smallest Regional Conservatoriums in the State, we are also the fastest growing Regional Conservatorium.
Our core business is certainly music education and an important part of that is access to performances by professional musicians. Attending concerts is a source of inspiration to continue in your instrument, it broadens your musical knowledge and opens up musical opportunities. In today’s article you will learn about the first of our Bush Concerts. I would urge all of our students to take up every opportunity to attend our Bush Concerts and the Deniliquin Concert Series.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that we are still operating from our current premises in George Street. You will be the first to know when we are ready to move into our new premises.

Enrolments are always welcome. Please contact our Administration Officer, Chris van Zeyl to organise an enrolment package. Chris can be contacted on 5881 4736 or
Our office hours are:
8.30-3.00 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays
1.00-5.00 Wednesdays

South West Music brings an exciting line up of professional musicians to our region. The 2014 Deniliquin Concert Series and the Bush Concert Series are organised in partnership with South West Arts and they are funded by Arts NSW as well as our local sponsors – Deniliquin Council, Conargo Shire, Deniliquin Party Hire, Glowreys Riverina Law Firm, Wired Entertainment, Deniliquin Newsagency & Bookstore and the Charlotte Street Dental Centre.
