Music Matters: December 2013

Posted by in Uncategorized | December 2, 2013

Our students have much to be proud of when they reflect on their music making in 2013. Reports will go out at the end of the term and they confirm that our students are achieving positive outcomes and our teachers are delivering quality music education programs. As well as congratulating our students and teachers, I wish to pay tribute to the commitment our parents make to their child’s music education. The benefits of course clearly indicate that this commitment is worthwhile and provides life-long skills. The child is developing their brain, learning about self-discipline, building their self-esteem and increasing their overall well-being.

Our adult students can rest assured that they are achieving the same benefits. Music is a great tonic and a powerful form of expression at any age. You only have to watch our local Sing Australia Choir perform or the local Ukulele group, to see that music keeps you young, vital and happy. I would urge anyone out there in the community who has always wanted to play an instrument or sing to put that at the top of their New Year’s resolutions.

Many thanks to our wonderful Administration Officer, Chris van Zeyl and our hard working Board of Management for their support throughout the year.

Merry Christmas to all and we look forward to welcoming you back to our 2014 programs.

Enrolment packages will be posted to current students early this month. Every student will need to complete a new enrolment form. The due date for Term 1 2014 fees is 24th January. In order to secure your current time on the roster you will need to pay by the due date.

New Enrolments are welcome. Would you like to learn vocals, brass, piano, keyboard, guitar, banjo, ukulele, flute, drum kit, double bass OR join in with the Young Musician’s Club? Please contact the office for more information.

Eliza Birmingham, Edward Public School

Eliza BirminghamEliza is 7 years old and she started learning the piano aged 6. Her teacher, Delena Gaffney says that she is a keen student and a delight to teach. Eliza was inspired by her grandmother to take up the piano and they enjoy playing for each other. Eliza likes the piano more than any other instrument she has heard. Her favourite piece is “Jazzy Joe”. Her brother Aden plays the piano also and Eliza is looking forward to the time when they can play duets together.

Recently, Eliza went along to Delena’s Young Musician’s Club on an ‘Invite A Friend’ session. Now she is hooked at that as well and attends the weekly sessions, which are held at the Anglican Church Hall on Thursday afternoons.
