Music Matters : February 2014

Posted by in MusicMatters | February 4, 2014

I am delighted to be able to announce that the Board of Management has secured new premises for our Regional Conservatorium. Neville Purtill and his team are busy refurbishing the space at the rear of the Caltex Service Station in Hardinge Street and we hope that the building will be ready for us in Term 2. This building will provide us with the space we need to run all of our programs under one roof plus room for growth. We will have a large band room, a large performance space, 4 studios and administration area.
The Board has been working on securing new premises for over 3 years now and had to work within budget constraints and the limit of a 3x3x3 year lease. We are confident that this building will meet our needs and will ensure the long-term growth of our Conservatorium. We look forward to inviting all of our South West Music families and the general public to an Open Day after we have moved in. In the meantime, our Term 1 programs will continue at our current premises in George Street.

Enrolments for 2014 are now overdue. New students and continuing students should contact our Administration Officer, Chris van Zeyl to organise their enrolment and secure a place on the timetable. Chris can be contacted on 5881 4736 or Enrolment forms and invoices were sent to existing students at the end of 2013. Lessons begin on 10th February.

South West Music brings an exciting line up of professional musicians to our region. The 2014 Deniliquin Concert Series and the Bush Concert Series are organised in partnership with South West Arts. You can look forward to 9 wonderful concerts this year. Three of these are offered as part of the Deniliquin subscription Concert Series. Our Concert Series Launch will be held at South West Music on Friday 28th February at 7pm. Music will be provided by SWM teachers and students along with supper and drinks….and it’s free. Subscriptions will go on sale on the night for the special price of $70 for 3 concerts. All Concert performers and venues will be announced at the Launch. Prepare to be surprised!!
