cherylAs we reflect on our year of music making we have a great deal to be proud of. It has been an enjoyable task for me to read through the semester two Student Reports. Every student has benefited from their musical experiences throughout the year and they should have a clear picture of what they can do to build on their learning and enjoyment of their instrument, in the year ahead.

Our teachers work hard to inspire and encourage their students and I thank them for their efforts. They also put a lot of extra time into providing performance opportunities for their students. It is important that parents encourage their children to take up these opportunities. Performance is a great motivator. Whilst everyone battles with nerves when getting up in front of an audience, the rewards far outweigh any feelings of discomfort. Each time you do it, it gets easier.

I pay tribute to all our families who work hard to give their children the opportunity to learn a musical instrument or sing. Your child is developing their brain, learning about self-discipline, building their self-esteem and increasing their overall well-being. Our adult students can rest assured that they are achieving the same benefits as well.

Finally, I wish to pay tribute to the hard work and professionalism of our Administration Officer, Chris van Zeyl. Chris does a wonderful job and her attention to detail and efficiency has benefited our organisation enormously.

Merry Christmas to all and we look forward to welcoming you back to South West Music Regional Conservatorium in 2014.

2013 CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Sunday, 1st December
2pm at Intereach – cnr Napier & Tricketts Streets, Deniliquin
The Christmas Concert is such a great way to reflect on the achievements of our students. Teachers have informed those students who will be performing next Sunday. Unfortunately there isn’t time for every student to perform at the Christmas Concert; however, performance opportunities are provided at other times during the year.

2014 CONCERT SERIES
Plans are well underway for our 2014 Concert Series. The official launch will take place next February and we look forward to featuring some of our students. I would urge every student to attend as many of our concerts as possible. Listening to live performances by professional musicians across a broad range of musical styles, is an important part of your musical education.

2014 ENROLMENTS

When you enrol in a SWM program you will receive tuition from qualified teachers who are up-to-date with child protection training and who have access to professional learning. Our teachers are expected to provide regular feedback on student progress and to cater for individual needs. Our organisation provides a positive and safe learning environment.

Enrolment packages for 2014 will be posted out early December. Every student will need to complete a new enrolment form. The due date for Term 1, 2014 fees is 24th January. An enrolment is not confirmed until the enrolment form is submitted and fees have been paid. In order to secure your current time on the roster you will need to pay by the due date. Teachers are only allowed to teach students who are properly enrolled. I would urge you to read the Enrolment Terms and Conditions document carefully when you receive the Enrolment Package. The financial viability of our Conservatorium is dependent on a clear and efficient enrolment process. Whilst it may seem that our invoices are sent out a long time in advance of each term, I can assure you that the timeframe is essential for the effective management of teaching rosters and the invoice due dates are evenly spaced throughout the year.

OUR WEBSITE
Thank you to the many people who have viewed our website and “liked” our Facebook page. We are confident that this will have a positive impact on the quality of our communication.

OUR PREMISES
Fortunately we are able to extend the lease on our current premises. The Board continues to investigate every possibility for permanent premises including the following – old maternity wing at the Hospital, CMA building in Victoria Street, DPI building in Charlotte Street, Concept Computers building, old Mazda building in End Street, old Community Centre in End Street, old ANZ Bank building, empty shops beside the Optometrist, empty space at the back of the Caltex Service Station in Hardinge Street. We are not giving up. If you have any questions or thoughts about this issue, please speak up.

OFFICE HOURS
Our office will be closed for the Christmas break from 3pm Thursday 19th December, 2013 and will re-open on Monday 20th January, 2014
In 2014 the reception desk will be attended at the following times:-

Monday 8.30 am – 3 pm
Tuesday 8.30 am – 3 pm
Wednesday 1 pm – 5 pm
Thursday 8.30 am – 3 pm

**Please note that if you wish to do business in the office in person, you will need to attend during these office hours.
South West Music accepts cheques, money orders, EFTPOS, credit card, online banking or direct debit.
